The University is pleased to confer the NUS Outstanding Young Alumni Award on Ms Goh Yiping in recognition of her impactful contributions to technology entrepreneurship.

Ms Goh’s acumen for doing good business was cultivated early. Helping out at her parent’s hawker food stall, she saw her parents worked long, backbreaking hours. Business flourished for a few good years, but it came at the huge expense of their health.

Other challenges like intensifying competition cropped up. Eventually, they decided to shut the stall down. The experience taught Ms Goh important lessons about entrepreneurship – the race is long; sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t. What matters most is to be resilient when charting your own destiny.

Among the string of start-ups she co-founded was the retail deals aggregator All Deals Asia, which was eventually acquired by Indonesia’s Lippo Group. The e-commerce whiz then developed Lippo’s MatahariMall.com from scratch to a US$500 million online marketplace.

Now, Ms Goh is a partner in Quest Ventures, a leading venture fund for technology firms and known for being an early backer for ShopBack, Carousell, SGAG and many other successful ventures. The seasoned disruptor wants to groom a new generation of start-up founders who “have found good problems to solve and are changing the world.”

Not just brick and mortar.

(Specialisation in Finance)

“My specialisation heightened my appreciation of Real Estate, and made me realise that the industry is more than just brick and mortar – it’s a trillion dollar industry with room for growth. The classes were also highly engaging, made even more so with site visits and guest lectures.

What drew me to Real Estate was the dynamism of the course – everything we learn is relevant to current trends. The holistic nature of the programme means that you develop both as a working professional and well-rounded person.”

Best of both worlds.

(Double Degree in Real Estate and Business)

“Real Estate and Business form a natural fit. There are many similarities and overlaps in the two – including economics, marketing and finance. Doing a double degree gives me the best of both worlds, as Business modules strengthen my understanding of Real Estate classes and vice versa.

Real Estate continues to interest me with its far-reaching nature across different industries. Our multidisciplinary curriculum puts students in the shoes of Real Estate professionals and has given me a deeper appreciation for the industry.”
