Commuters’ choice of public transit services
In the research “Preference of Public Transit Commuters: Evidence from Smart Card Data in Singapore”, Professor SING Tien Foo and his co-authors examine the impact of service attributes including travel time, reliability and travel costs on transportation mode choice by different types of public transit commuters.
Industrial land market in China
“Can Price Regulation Improve Land Use Efficiency?” Associate Professor QIN Yu and her co-authors find that a minimum-price policy increased the land-use intensity in the industrial land market in China.
Social mobility
Assistant Professor FAN Yi and her co-authors document a “Rising Intergenerational Income Persistence in China.” They explore how the decline in social mobility correlates with market reforms, economic development and policy changes
Conspicuous consumption affects indebtedness
Associate Professor LEE Kwan Ok in her research titled “Conspicuous Consumption and Household Indebtedness” find that residents in private housing are likely to be more conspicuous and carry more debts than their counterparts in public housing units in Singapore.
The multifaceted effects of one-child policy
In the research “Fertility Restrictions and Life-Cycle Outcomes: Evidence from the One Child Policy in China,” Assistant Professor Huang Wei and his co-authors show that exposure to fertility restrictions at an early age can have powerful impact on individual’s life-cycle social economic outcomes.

Our Initiatives
The department works closely with Institute of Real Estate and Urban Studies (IREUS), a research institute at National University of Singapore (NUS) that strives to advance global thought-leadership in real estate and urban studies through research that is multi-disciplinary, relevant and rigorous. Ng Teng Fong Chair Professor Qian Wenlan is currently the Director and Professor Ooi Thian Leong Joseph is the Co-Director.
A Good Foundation
Our programme equips real estate students with holistic skillsets and knowledge in professional fields ranging from public housing and land use policies formulation, urban and master planning, real estate valuation, development and marketing, to real estate portfolio investment, finance and asset management.
