Masterclass: Shaping the Next Sustainability Era in Asia

Diamonds took centre stage at the masterclass “Shaping the Next Sustainability Era in Asia”, held as part of NUS Business School’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations on 14 August 2025.

Delivered by Prof Lawrence Loh, Director of the NUS Centre for Governance and Sustainability (CGS), the session took the audience on a journey from carbon (the element that forms diamonds) and global climate agreements to sustainability in Asia and uncovering the hidden gems of collaboration.

In focus was the comparison between carbon neutral and net zero, as well as the implications of setting short-term and long-term climate targets.

Prof Loh pointed out that Asia is going through a transition period, and that inter-governmental collaboration efforts can bring sustainability forward.

He also drew a parallel between the 4Cs of diamonds and the pillars of creating lasting impact:

Carat – Impact Sustainability

Cut – Impact Education

Colour – Impact Research

Clarity – Impact Communication

Happy 60th Birthday to NUS Business School. Here’s to six decades of brilliance, and many more years of impact and shine!
