The Financial Database had subscribed to the Datastream, I/B/E/S, SDC Platinum, Shareworld, Thomson Research, 13F, Insiders under Thomson Financial. A brief description of the historical analytical services is as follows:
I/B/E/S
I/B/E/S is a global financial information business best known as the premier source of global earnings estimates and other financial data. It contains the most comprehensive site of live quality earnings expectations and research from 831 brokers on 18,000 companies in 59 countries. IBES offers quality earnings forecasts, analysts' recommendations, stock charts, portfolio alerts, stock selection tools and more. Data is updated on a real-time basis.

Datastream Research Service
Datastream comprises of key data sets from both developed and emerging markets - equities, market indices, company accounts, macroeconomics, bonds, foreign exchange, interest rates, commodities and derivatives.
Equity prices, volumes, market capitalisation, earnings and dividend data for around 50,000 equities covering 64 developed and emerging markets with over 25 years of history for key developed markets - global equity indices covering 38 markets, 16 regions, 127 sectors spanning over 25 years of history - extensive worldwide unit trust pricing and dividend coverage for 11 countries, including over 10,000 UK trusts - over 200,000 international macroeconomic time series available with indicators for around 175 countries sourced from central banks - foreign exchange rates for over 63 currencies - over 2,000 interest rates - over 200,000 bonds from 32 markets - 19,000 warrants from over 50 markets - commodities covering 1,500 spot prices and major indices…

Important:
For Datastream, and I/B/E/S, due to budget constraint, only four IDs are allowed to access the databases simultaneously. To allow fair usage for all in the Faculty, each user will only be allowed a session of 60 minutes. Once the time limit is exceeded, the session will be terminated. Hence, every user should exercise due restraints in their usage hours and save their working files before the time limit runs out.
How does one access data on Datastream and I/B/E/S?
For IBES, You can request for a WRDS account to access the data on the internet.

You may only access the above mentioned databases from terminals located in HSSML (Hon Sui Sen Memorial Library) and in Computer Lab1( in BIZ1).
User Guides
You may also refer to a wide range of User Guide which can be borrowed from the Information Counter in the Hon Sui Sen Memorial Library. Also, a few copies of the Getting Started Guide for Datastream and Data Definition Guide for Worldscope are available for loan from the Financial Database Resource Centre.

Thomson Research is a source for complete company information on thousands of US and international companies. Powerful, integrated capabilities including spreadsheet-ready financials and batch printing let you get information including financials, filings, databases, news and more on the spot.It has around 12 robust datasets and delivers a comprehensive online collection of US and international company coverage.It gives easy access to such information as the Disclosure database of SEC filings and images of annual reports, I/B/E/S earnings estimates, Thomson Financial's Research collection, articles online and insider trading analysis. The image repository spans five years and more than 1.2 million filings. Global Access is widely recognized as the only online research tool capable of combining detailed financial and management information with more than five million source documents.

Shareworld is a comprehensive resource available for global securities ownership data. It offers the most current information on institutional holdings transactions and the people and firms involved. It is a Decision-Support Tool for Corporate Finance, Merger Advisory, and Equity Capital Markets. It contains information on background and strategy, buys and sells, and asset allocation by class, region, and industry. Data on securities and its owners, in many countries is updated daily from a variety of international sources including SEC 13F institutional filings, corporate insider filings, mutual fund shareholder reports, annual reports, stock exchange data, and other reliable documents.

SDC Platinum
SDC Platinum is a financial transactions database. It is asource for thorough and accurate account of the entire global financial marketplace. It provides a detailed information onGlobal new issues, M&A, syndicated loans, private equity, project finance, poison pills, and more. The SDC Platinum Worldwide M&A database provides detailed information on mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic alliances around the globe. The SDC Platinum Global Corporate Finance database provides information on U.S. and non-U.S. domestic new issues, international warrants, worldwide syndicated loans, medium term note programs, and U.S. underwritten calls.It covers more than 112,000 U.S. public offerings with 800 data elements dating back to 1970, and 50,000 public offerings with 500 data elements dating back to 1983.

Both the mutual fund and institutional sets provide detail on holdings of US equities, and a limited set of other securities, including foreign stocks, and are based on documents filed by registered investment companies and professional money managers.

Insider Filings
Files are designed to capture all insider activity as reported on SEC forms 3, 4, 5, and 144. In addition, TFN adds value by making systematic interpretations on the accuracy of as-reported data and inserting “cleansed” fields for comparison. A cleanse code is included to denote the overall level of confidence in each record.
