Bursaries

When you give to bursaries, you are making a lasting difference in students’ lives. You will enable motivated and deserving students to receive a quality education based on their ability to learn but not their capacity to pay.

Bursaries are awarded to students, after receiving both government and NUS study loans, who still require financial assistance.

When making your gift, you can choose an endowed bursary or expendable bursary. In recognition, we may offer a naming opportunity for a minimum expendable gift of S$45,000, or a minimum endowed gift of S$150,000. You can specify your bursary to support a particular nationality, such as Singaporean students. You can also choose to fulfil your gift as a multi-year pledge.

Please contact us about the naming opportunity.

Wong Kim Pong arrived in Singapore as a teenager, seeking work and a better life, while Cheong Kuah Heong followed her mother in search of her father. Their paths intertwined, leading to marriage and the birth of six children, comprising three sons and three daughters. Having persevered through the Japanese occupation, life was difficult for this young family. Despite financial struggles, the couple set up a small tailoring shop “Friendly Shirt Co.” to help support their family’s needs and educational aspirations. Their sacrifices bore fruit, as whilst juggling responsibilities at the shop, all six children excelled academically and obtained tertiary education, with two receiving prestigious medical scholarships. Their legacy has since extended to ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

This bursary serves as a tribute to their enduring values and resilience, and aims to support future generations in pursuing academic excellence and realising their potential.
