NUS Business School scholars embarked on an exclusive study tour to Wilmar International on 11 May 2026, gaining firsthand exposure to the operations and business strategies of Asia’s leading agribusiness group and a Fortune Global 500 company.
The visit provided the recipients of Wilmar Scholarship and KKH Scholarship with valuable insights into Wilmar International and further strengthened the longstanding partnership between Wilmar International and NUS Business School.

During the visit, Vice Dean Prof Susan See Tho reflected on the significance of the partnership, sharing that “Today is not just a visit; it is also a reflection of a partnership that continues to grow in strength and impact. For our students, visits like these are invaluable. They offer opportunities to gain industry insights, build meaningful relationships, and better understand the organisations shaping the global economy”.
She also highlighted how the scholarships not only create educational opportunities but strengthen ties and shared growth between Singapore and Malaysia.
Students were warmly welcomed by Mr Clarence Tay, Head of HR at Wilmar International.

In addition to speaking about the company’s success stories, business strategies, and corporate culture, Mr Tay emphasised that qualities such as honesty, hard work, and humility are important in identifying suitable talent at Wilmar. He shared, “AI may increasingly substitute for knowledge and certain technical skills, but it will never replace character or attitude — these remain the true differentiators.” He also encouraged the scholars to contribute to society in the future, reflecting the spirit that Mr Kuok Khoon Hong, Chairman of Wilmar, hopes to impart to the scholars. Established in 2022 through the generosity of Mr Kuok Khoon Hong and Wilmar International, KKH Scholarship and Wilmar Scholarship support Malaysian undergraduate students with strong academic ability, demonstrated leadership potential and financial need. Since inception, the scholarships have supported 19 students, opening doors to opportunities, growth and new experiences.
Scholarship recipient Tan Mei Wen, a final-year Business Administration student specialising in Finance and Operations Management, also shared how the scholarship had given her the confidence and freedom to pursue opportunities, while allowing her to focus on her personal growth and development.
This exclusive study visit also featured a lab tour, complementing the sharing and networking sessions and giving students the opportunity to gain deeper insights into Wilmar International’s operations while engaging directly with industry professionals.
We extend our sincere appreciation to NUS Business School Alumnus Mr Kuok Khoon Hong for his generosity and for making this meaningful visit possible, as well as to Mr Clarence Tay, Ms Angela Lim and the Wilmar International team for their warm hospitality and continued support for our students.
The Business School Development Office is pleased to organise this study tour. Partnerships like these are powerful reminders of how education and industry can come together to create lasting impact by nurturing future talent while fostering deeper regional connections and shared growth.
