Professor Tan Chwee Huat was the Dean and Head of Department of Organisational Behavior, later to become the Department of Management & Organisation. He recruited most of us as Senior Tutors. He was a gentleman – a man of very few words, preferring to lead by his actions than words. He was a fair and considerate Head of Department and put others’ interests ahead of his.
When he stepped down from running the Department, he willingly taught the classes assigned to him without making a fuss. During his last few months, there were clear signs that he was unwell. Yet he did not ask for any teaching concessions, and went on fulfilling his full teaching workload.
Despite his achievements, Prof Tan is remembered by colleagues and students as someone who was very humble and kind.
