Courses which have been approved on the Pre-Approved List are subject to change, for instance due to syllabus changes.
- Course mapping requests will NOT be processed if the submission in myEduRec is ahead of the above timeline (i.e, mapping requests submitted between January & March for SEP in Semester 1 or Summer Programmes will NOT be processed. Students have to re-submit their request from April onwards.)
- For courses that are already approved on the pre-approved Course Mapping List in myEduRec, students are to ensure that they enter the course CODE and TITLE accurately. This is to facilitate AUTOMATIC approval performed by the system. Any deviation from the List will not be recognised by the system.
Business Course Mapping Procedure
Please be guided by “Submit Module Mappings for External Study Program” User Guide on NUS Student Portal. The Course Mapping Worksheet will be routed to the faculty/school that offers the NUS course for review.
For mapping to NUS Business School courses,
- Select courses offered by the Partner University (PU).
- Search the pre-approved Course Mapping List in myEduRec for the list of courses that had been pre-approved to NUS Business School courses.
- If the PU course is found in the List, please submit a Course Mapping Worksheet. All details on the Worksheet must be complete. It will be auto-approved.
- If the PU course is not found in the List,
- compare the PU course outline with BIZ course outlines, and proceed to steps b. and c. only if there are significant syllabus match
- email the detailed PU course outline in a Word document using this template (one-course mapping per word document) to the SEP Coordinator*. Professor relies on this document to review the request.
- submit a Course Mapping Worksheet in myEduRec.
- the outcome will be updated in the Course Mapping Worksheet.
- Students are encouraged to submit a maximum 5 mapping requests at one time, and only when they are certain that they would like to take the courses in the PU. The course mapping processing will be delayed for students who exceeded 5 requests.
- The onus is on the student to fulfill/adhere to the pre-requisite/preclusion (if any) of the mapped equivalent NUS course.

- Is there a specific course code for partner university courses that are mapped back as unrestricted electives?
All courses taken overseas must have an equivalent existing NUS code if you are transferring the units back to NUS.
- For mapping of non-Business NUS courses, do I need approval from the Undergraduate Studies Office as well?
You will still need to submit the mapping request worksheet in myEduRec. It will be routed to the non-business faculty for approval.
- Can I apply to go on exchange in Year 3 Semester 2?
If you are proceeding to Year 4, you may go on SEP in your Year 3 Semester 2.
- Where may I obtain an original copy of my NUS transcript?
Please refer to Registrar’s Office Student Record Transcripts.
- If I am currently on exchange and wish to extend another semester at the same university, am I permitted to do so?
In order to allow more business students the opportunity to go on student exchange, we can only enable one business student to attend one semester for SEP.
- As a student returning from the exchange, what are the steps to take to get the unit for the extra/5th course (BXT3761) after passing all four 7.5 ECTS courses taken?
The extra/5th course applies to specific European PUs that offers 7.5 ECTS per course. The student who passed 4 courses (30 ECTS) at these PUs is eligible for the extra/5th course. The extra 4 units are optional and may be used to fulfill your Unrestricted Elective requirement.
Undergraduate Studies Office will provide the details via email in due time.
- How do we check if our SEP credit transfer has been approved? As the courses have yet to be reflected on our transcript.
Unit transfer processing will take place between 1st March and 30th April for returning SEP students in Semester 1, and between 1st October and 30th November for returning SEP students in Semester 2. You may check myEduRec for your units from 30th April and 30th November respectively.
- Are all courses taken overseas transferred back to NUS as 4 Units?
No. Students should not assume that their courses taken overseas are mapped back to NUS as 4 Units courses. Courses, particularly language courses, may be mapped back as only 3 Units (or less), and the shortfall has to be made up before graduation can be approved. The onus to check is on the students.
- How long does the course mapping approval process take?
Approximately 2 to 4 weeks.
- Is it possible for me to map a level-4000 business course that is a replacement for the Honours Dissertation under BBA Honours graduation requirement?
If the course offered in the summer programme can be mapped to a level-4000 business course, you may proceed to take the course.
- If I am still clearing my core courses, am I allowed to take a level-3000 course?
As a business student, you may proceed to take a level-3000 course.
- If I read a level-3000 course, would it be counted as a core course or a specialisation course?
This will depend on your own personal study plan and choice of BIZ specialisation.

- Summer/Winter Programmes which are less than 3 weeks long (21 days) DO NOT qualify for credit transfer
- As NUS Business School does not support Summer/Winter Programmes which extend into a new academic semester in NUS, an application for LOA to attend such programmes will NOT be approved.

- Does the Business School support summer programmes that conduct segments that spill over into the NUS semester? Can I apply for a Leave of Absence to attend this summer programme?
The Business School does not support any summer programme which extends beyond the NUS school vacation, so the Leave of Absence will not be approved.
- Will the Business School approve course mappings for summer programmes that extend beyond the NUS school vacation?
The Business School does not support any summer programmes which extend beyond the NUS school vacation, so the course mapping request will not be approved.
- Does the Business School support/facilitate winter programmes lasting 2 weeks?
We recommend that students consider Summer Programmes with a duration of 6 weeks or more. Summer/Winter Programmes lasting less than 3 weeks will not be considered for unit transfer. Course mapping approval also does not equate to successful unit transfer in these programmes. From AY2018/19, the maximum unit transfer limits for Summer/Winter Programmes are, Summer Programmes would be 10 Units (typically two courses), and 5 Units (typically one course) for Winter Programmes.
- For summer programmes commencing in July, when is the latest date to submit course mapping worksheets via myEduRec?
Students may submit course mapping worksheets via myEduRec as late as July.
- Are there subsidies provided for the summer programmes?
The grant for summer programmes will only be confirmed in June. If it is available, it will only be a small amount.
- Am I allowed to take all the courses offered in the HEC Paris summer programme?
Students are only allowed to read one course per period in the HEC Paris summer programme.
- What is the procedure for credit transfer upon return from the winter programme?
Students should submit the winter programme transcript to the Undergraduate Studies Office after 15th March. Do note that students can only transfer units for winter programmes which are at least 3 weeks long. Hybrid/Online programme are not recognised.
- During the summer semester, I took a special term at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to undertake two military courses with SAF-NTU Academy. I would like to map these two courses back to NUS. Please advise on the procedure for credit transfer.
Please submit the NTU transcript to the Undergraduate Studies Office for unit transfer by 15th October.
- Can I attend the winter programmes in Korea and transfer my credits back to NUS?
Students can transfer units for one business course taken in one of the following 3-week winter programmes in Korea.
- Korea University – 27th December 2018 to 17th January 2019
- Yonsei University – 27th December 2018 to 17th January 2019
However, as these 2 winter programmes extend into the new semester in NUS, our business school will NOT approve the LOA. Students are responsible for informing their respective professors if they are absent from class during the first week of Semester 2 and have to bear the consequences (for instance, this may have an impact on their class participation score).
