Singapore, 13 January 2024 – The National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School’s annual flagship event, the 14th Bizad Charity Run (BCR), today raised over $550,000 for the NUS Business School Alumni (NUSBSA) Student Experience Fund, NUSBSA Bursary Fund and TOUCH Community Services (TOUCH), one of the highest amounts raised in BCR history.

Jointly organised by the NUS Business School Alumni Association and NUS Bizad Club, the event galvanises students, academicians, and alumni to care for the less fortunate business school students who may be facing financial difficulties. It also extends the spirit of giving to the community as part of the proceeds will go towards supporting the beneficiaries of TOUCH.

Xena Kang, a second-year Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) student, is a beneficiary of the NUSBSA Bursary Fund. “Growing up in a low-income family, I was constantly struggling with difficulties to pay school fees and meet basic needs. When I was given a place at NUS to pursue my business degree, I wondered if I should reject the offer and work to support my family instead. The NUSBSA Bursary Fund kicked in and alleviated my financial burden, allowing me to continue with my education and enjoy university life”, said Xena. She is paying it forward by being part of the organising committee of the Bizad Charity Run this year and is helping to raise funds through publicity campaigns.

Mr Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law, who flagged off the 14th Bizad Charity Run as Guest-of-Honour, said, “It is encouraging to witness more youths getting involved in meaningful social causes. As future leaders of our country, they play an important role in shaping our society to be caring, confident and cohesive. My heartfelt appreciation to the Bizad Charity Run organising committee for championing a good cause, setting a stellar example for other young people to step up and make a positive impact on Singapore’s future.”

Distinguished Professor Andrew Rose, Dean of NUS Business School, said, “I commend the remarkable efforts of the organising committee and thank everyone who has contributed to the success of this year’s event. It has helped to build camaraderie as well as unite students, faculty, and alumni for a meaningful purpose. Bizad Charity Run reflects the core values of NUS Business School and it will continue to be a beacon for the next generation of students.”

Over the past 14 years, the NUS Bizad Charity Run has attracted more than 12,500 participants and raised a commendable sum exceeding $2.5 million. The fundraising drive is ongoing and members of the public can continue to make donations till 31 May 2024.
