Singapore, 7 November 2025 — The National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School commemorated its 60th anniversary today with a gala dinner, celebrating its legacy of shaping leaders who make a difference to business and society.

The event also marked a milestone achievement of over S$6 million raised to advance scholarships, bursaries, student programmes and other educational opportunities for future generations. The funds raised reflect one of the strongest demonstrations of alumni, industry and community solidarity in the School’s history.

Guest-of-Honour Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, who is also an NUS Business School alumna, officiated at the celebration. She was joined by distinguished business and community leaders including Dr Amy Khor, former Senior Minister of State; Mr Peter Seah, Chairman of DBS Group Holdings and Singapore Airlines; and Mr Ow Fook Chuen, Commissioner of Inland Revenue and Chief Executive Officer of the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore.

In her remarks, Ms Fu said, “NUS Business School has had a remarkable 60-year track record of producing leaders in the private and public sectors and has also consistently shown its resilience by adapting to changing times. Many hands have come together to transform NUS Business School into the world-class institution it is today. Nonetheless, an increasingly challenging political and economic environment and disruptive technologies in the areas of AI and climate action require the school to respond quickly to prepare its students for the evolving needs of businesses. I am confident that NUS Business School will create a future that thrives, not just for the next 60 years, but for generations to come.”

The School’s diamond jubilee coincides with Singapore’s 60th year of independence and NUS’ 120th anniversary, underscoring a shared commitment to nation-building through education and enterprise. NUS Business School’s collective efforts echo Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s call to build a “We‑First” society – one where government, business, and the community work together to uplift others, strengthen social mobility and expand access to education.

Shaping the next generation of business leaders

Founded in 1965 with just 21 students, NUS Business School today educates more than 6,500 students annually and is consistently recognised as one of Asia’s leading business schools. With a global network of over 50,000 alumni and 60 chapters worldwide, the School continues to nurture leaders who shape economies, transform industries and make an impact across both the public and private sectors.

NUS Business School’s 60th anniversary celebrations highlighted the strong partnership between academia and industry. Through collaborations in research, executive education, internships and philanthropy, the School nurtures talent and advances enterprise, affirming its integral role in shaping Singapore’s business ecosystem and preparing future-ready leaders.

The School’s success is particularly rooted in a strong tradition of giving, where donors, alumni and friends embody the “We-First” ethos by paying forward the opportunities they once received. Over the decades, their generosity has provided scholarships and financial aid to countless students from diverse backgrounds, enabling them to pursue their education and fulfil their potential as future leaders.

This culture of giving continues to grow, with over 20 new scholarships, bursaries and awards created by NUS Business School’s alumni and corporate partners to support future generations of business students. Their generosity underscores the community’s shared commitment to nurturing talent and enduring belief in education as a force for opportunity and social mobility.

Alumni generosity creates ripple effect

A desire to ensure that students can enjoy the same opportunities they did, regardless of financial situation, motivates alumni donors like Mr Teo Cheow Tong from the Bachelor of Accountancy (Class of 1982) to give back. Mr Teo established the Mr and Mrs Teo Cheow Tong Bursary in 2022 for students pursuing the Accountancy programme. He shared, “There are many students from less fortunate backgrounds. Some work night and weekend jobs on top of their day jobs just to fund their studies. I benefitted from an enriching university education and wanted to pay it forward to today’s young accounting graduates.”

Such donations impact students directly, as in the case of current NUS Business School Year 4 student Ang Yen Chi, who has been able to work fewer hours and spend more time on her studies with the support of a scholarship funded by Dr Sun Xiushun (EMBA-Chinese, Class of 2012). Expressing her gratitude, Ms Ang said, “The Sun Xiushun Scholarship shows Dr Sun’s generosity in improving the lives of those in the community. His efforts are deeply admirable and it inspires me to do the same when I can. In the future, I hope that I will follow in his footsteps and become someone NUS Business School can be proud of by contributing to scholarships for future generations of students.”

Other distinguished alumni who have established scholarships and bursaries include Mr Raymond Goh (Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Class of 1990) and his wife, Madam Lee Kwai Fong (BBA, Class of 1989), Mr Yeo Keng Joon (BBA, Class of 1985) and his wife, Madam Kong Yuet Peng (BBA, Class of 1986). Meanwhile, alumni like Mr Ouyang Xiuzhang (BBA, Class of 1999) have extended their support to initiatives such as the Sino-Singapore Innovation Programme, which equips students with industry-ready, China-ready, and future-ready skills to thrive in a fast-changing global economy.

Distinguished Professor Andrew Rose, Dean of NUS Business School, said: “For six decades, NUS Business School has shaped leaders who make a difference to business and society. Our alumni are not only industry leaders but also generous supporters of the next generation. Their spirit of giving back ensures that future students will have the same opportunities to learn, grow and lead. As we look ahead, this culture of community and commitment will continue to propel the school forward in Singapore, Asia and beyond.”
