NUS Business School and International ESG Association sign MOU to spearhead ESG developments

Singapore, 12 July 2022 — A new partnership aims to bring environmental, social and governance (ESG) developments to a higher level. The Centre for Governance and Sustainability (CGS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School and the International ESG Association (IESGA) are collaborating to bring the Global ESG Forum to a wider audience, promoting knowledge on how businesses can better incorporate ESG considerations in their operations.

In a ceremony on 12 July, Distinguished Professor Andrew Rose, Dean, NUS Business School, Professor Lawrence Loh, Director, CGS, Professor Ok Yong Sik and Professor Rhee Jay Hyuk, both Co-Presidents of IESGA, signed the collaboration MOU.

The parties aim to jointly organise the 2023 Global ESG Forum which will be held in Singapore. Participants can look forward to workshops and research findings by esteemed academics, industry professionals and representatives from the public sector.

The 2022 Global ESG Forum, which will take place in Seoul from 29 to 31 August, is jointly organised by IESGA and the ESG Research Centre at Korea University (KU), in collaboration with the science journal Nature and the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). The forum will gather world-renowned scientists from major universities and institutions, as well as globally influential investors and corporates who will share their insights on ESG.

Distinguished Professor Andrew Rose, Dean, NUS Business School, said, “ESG factors are growing in importance for businesses and society. NUS Business School is pleased to work with IESGA to bring much-needed ESG insights and discussions to a higher level and contribute in terms of education and research with an Asian focus.”

Professor Lawrence Loh, Director, CGS, said, “The partnership taps on the ESG expertise of both CGS and IESGA to deliver practical knowledge to business professionals. This knowledge will help firms be more steadfast in their transformation to become more sustainable organisations.”

Professor Ok Yong Sik, IESGA Co-President and a professor in the Division of Environmental Science and Ecological Engineering at Korea University, said, “The Global ESG Forum has attracted a strong line-up of speakers and participants. We are happy to work with NUS Business School on the 2023 Global ESG Forum, creating important conversations which will be relevant in many business and societal aspects.”

Professor Rhee Jay Hyuk, IESGA Co-President and Director of the ESG Research Centre at Korea University, said, “The Global ESG Forum aims to establish a global knowledge network of ESG scholars and practitioners. We believe our collaboration with the CGS at NUS Business School will enhance collective ESG intelligence and help various sectors to be more proactive in their ESG efforts. About the Centre for Governance and Sustainability

The Centre for Governance and Sustainability (CGS), formerly known as Centre for Governance, Organisations and Institutions (CGIO), was established by the National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School in 2010. About the International ESG Association

The International ESG Association (IESGA) is the first South Korea-based institute with a global academic network that helps Korean companies become more sustainable in the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) era. The IESGA was established on 4 May 2021, with Professor Rhee Jay Hyuk and Professor Ok Yong Sik from Korea University as founders and Co-Presidents.

As of June 2022, IESGA has networked with more than 400 universities, research institutes, and institutions in 48 countries and five continents. It aims to establish a foundation for improving collective intelligence about the present and future of ESG management.
