Singapore, 15 May 2024 — National University of Singapore (NUS) Business School today announced they aim to offer more scholarships and study awards for Southeast Asian students for its Masters Programmes in AY2025/2026. This will provide more opportunities for Indonesian students to fulfil their education aspirations in Singapore.
The school also announced that applications will open for the Master of Science (MSc) programmes from October 1, 2024. Of the eleven MSc programmes offered by NUS Business School, most Indonesian students are attracted to the following programmes:
One of the most popular MSc programmes amongst Indonesians is the MSc in Sustainable and Green Finance, with the latest cohort comprising 13% Indonesians.
Another MSc programme that has attracted Indonesian students is the MSc in Strategic Analysis and Innovation (MSI). With its first cohort graduating this year, the programme aims to further equip students with the skills and knowledge required to emerge as effective leaders in an increasingly complex future, with a particular focus on the critical areas of strategy and innovation. The programme attracted an international cohort with students from ten different regions, of which Indonesia comprised the fourth largest group.
Aaron Goh, Director, MSc Programmes, NUS Business School said, “To successfully navigate today’s increasingly volatile global landscape, leaders of tomorrow must be equipped with innovative thinking, soft skills, and strategic knowledge to make a meaningful impact on the world. Indonesia is a region in ASEAN that is emerging with many potential leaders of the future, thus we hope to attract more Indonesian participants in all our programmes.”
“Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous country, behind only China, India, and the United States of America. It is also one of the world’s youngest, with almost 50% of Indonesians under the age of 30, and a median age of just 28. Our endeavour is to always bring together a rich mix of future talent from across the region and we are happy to see the valuable experience our Indonesian students have gained through these programmes,” further added Goh.
According to UNESCO data, Indonesia has the second highest number of students studying abroad in ASEAN, with 59,224 students going abroad for tertiary education as of February 2024 (Source: Goodstats.id). Singapore is one of the preferred destinations for Indonesian students, with the National University of Singapore ranking third amongst all overseas universities. According to data collated from 1900 to 2022, there has been a total of 2,282 Indonesian alumni in NUS, 769 of whom majored in business. (Source: Goodstats.id)
Study Awards
NUS Business School offers limited full scholarships & study awards for selected outstanding applicants. Applications must be submitted by the respective cut-off date for each Masters Programme. The selection is based on merit and eligibility in the following categories:
NUS Business School will offer more scholarships and study awards to applicants from Southeast Asia for its Masters programmes in AY2025/2026. From Academic Years 2020 to 2024, 37.0% of the total number of Indonesian students who were accepted by NUS Business School were awarded some form of scholarship or study awards. Additionally, four students received LPDP (Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan – Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education).
Indonesian-national Rafi Damar, a graduating student enrolled in the Master of Science in Strategic Analysis and Innovation (MSI) programme at NUS Business School said, “My experience studying in NUS Business School has been fruitful and valuable. Through the MSI programme, I learned important skills that I can use to build my existing business in Indonesia. Furthermore, studying in Singapore, ASEAN’s finance and business hub, enabled me to meet individuals from various parts of the world, expanding my professional network. I believe that the network and connections I have built will be essential in achieving my long-term goals to expand and scale my business beyond Indonesia.”
“The MSI programme’s accelerated format was a deciding factor for me, as I would not have been able to commit to a longer programme. Moreover, with Singapore being geographically close to Indonesia, it became the optimal choice for me to continue my education without significant delays. Having a strong interest in sustainability-related issues, I particularly enjoyed the ‘Strategic Sustainability’ course as it gave me the opportunity to put theory to practice by generating solutions to real-world challenges, helping me to gain practical application of concepts that I learned in class.” said Indonesian-student Hilman Zainul, graduating student enrolled in the Master of Science in Strategic Analysis and Innovation (MSI) programme.
