Charlie Williams is a strategy scholar at Bocconi University of Milan with an interest in how people, structure, and experience affect the process of change in firms. He has studied how firms adapt their knowledge while expanding abroad, how executive movement affects the likelihood of entering and exiting markets, and how entrepreneurial firms face the challenges of growth. His research spans technology intensive industries from telecommunications to medical devices to crowdfunding and formula one automotive racing teams. He has published scholarly articles in Management Science and Strategic Management Journal and served on the editorial boards of Strategic Management Journal and Organization Science. He has served on the research committee, teaching committee, and executive board of AOM’s BPS division (now STR) and has served as program chair and other roles in the conference leadership cycle of the Knowledge and Innovation interest group of the Strategic Management Society (SMS). In addition, he was Media Innovations co-editor of SMS, involved in social media, virtual special issue, and video initiatives for the society. He has taught strategy execution and corporate strategy in Bocconi’s MBA, as well as corporate strategy in the Masters of International Management and strategy foundations in the PhD program. He previously taught at Duke University and the University of Illinois. Before earning his PhD at the University of Michigan he worked for CNN, the Economist Intelligence Unit, and Pyramid Research.
