“Strong investor protection is the bedrock of a well-functioning capital market. It is important that Singapore strengthens investor protection if it is to make the capital market more attractive to investors.

The Centre for Investor Protection will focus on practical research which is independent and impactful, aimed at improving policies and practices related to investor protection and corporate governance.

Having founded the first corporate governance centre in Singapore about 20 years ago, this is like a homecoming for me. Given the progress made by other regional countries and the challenges faced by our capital market, it is even more important today for Singapore to strengthen policies and practices related to corporate governance and investor protection.”
