Under the Fair Consideration Framework, publicity from employers to students can only be based on the programme level (i.e. undergraduate or MSc postgraduate).

BIZCareers serves students under the NUS Business School, whereas the NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates (CFG) serves all NUS students.

About Internship

From over 2,000 internship placements in Academic Year 2022/2023, summer vacation is the most popular internship period for undergraduates to participate in an internship.
Here is the breakdown:

  • Summer vacation internships (May-Jul): 60%
  • Academic term or 6-month internships (Jan-May/Jun, Jul/Aug-Dec): 35%
  • Winter vacation internships (Dec): 5%
Credit-Bearing Non-Credit-Bearing
1. Will the intern earn course credits from fulfilling the internship? Yes No
2. If the internship is full-time during academic term time, does the intern have to pay school fees? Yes No, the student has to fulfil the internship via Leave of Absence (LOA).
3. If the internship is full-time during academic term time, is the intern covered under NUS insurance? Yes, all full-time NUS students receive basic medical and personal accident coverage by the university’s medical insurance scheme. Visit NUS Student Insurance for more details. BIZCareers recommends that prospective employers cover the intern under your organisation’s insurance schemes such as medical or workmen’s compensation (WICA), especially if the intern is required to work in high-risk environments (i.e. laboratories, shipyards, heavy industry environments with machinery/equipment). NUS Business School students are expected to complete at least one internship (regardless credit-bearing or non-credit-bearing) under the Work Experience Milestone before they graduate.

In general, the monthly internship stipend ranges from:

  • Undergraduates: Minimum of S$1,000
  • MSc Postgraduates: Minimum of S$1,200

Stipends can go up to S$1,500 or higher, depending on the industry and role. Some employers offer higher stipends to attract more applicants, especially in competitive fields.

Employers are not required to apply for work passes for international students:

  1. If the internship period falls under the NUS official vacation periods in winter (December) and summer (May to July/August).
  2. If an internship is credit-bearing during the academic semesters.

Note: For GRT claim, working hours must be stated within the internship offer letter or an email from the company.

Expect to receive the letter within 5 working days.

Students at NUS Business School can work part-time during a semester if their schedules allow. They typically work 2 to 3 days a week. International students can work up to 16 hours per week.

The Work-Study Internship Programme (WSIP) involves a 32 or 40-week internship with a work-study rhythm of 4.5 days of work during the 13-week semester. Collaboration with NUS Business School faculty is required.

Internships under 3 months are generally not eligible for annual leave and medical benefits. For more details, refer to MOM guidelines.

About Graduates

  • Undergraduates: Majority (60-70%) graduate in May; a minority in December.
  • MSc Postgraduates: Graduate between May-August and in January, depending on their programme.

Employers with a strong sense of purpose and a positive societal or environmental impact are highly valued too.

About Internship/Job Portals

Register on the NUS TalentConnect portal to post opportunities. Refer to the Employer Guide for employers.

  • NUS TalentConnect: For full-time jobs and credit-bearing internships within fixed academic semester and vacation periods (Winter, Summer, Semester 1 or 2).
  • NUS Internship-as-a-Service (IAAS): For gigs, part-time internships, and non-credit-bearing internships outside semester periods.

Employers are encouraged to post internship and job opportunities 3 to 6 months before the internship/job start date.

Log onto the NUS TalentConnect portal 3 days before the posting expires to update the end date (i.e. change the current posting end date from 31 Aug 2024 to 30 Sep 2024).

The default posting duration is 30 days on the NUS TalentConnect portal.

About Events/Students Engagement

Submit 30 days before the event date.

eDM publicity is emailed directly to students. Digital screens on campus are for internal use only.

Generally, there is no cost. However, employers providing refreshments will incur those costs. Additionally, employers are responsible for any logistical arrangements, such as removing or setting up tables and equipment, which may involve additional costs borne by the employers.

  • In semester 1, the best time is from September to October.
  • In semester 2, the best time is from February to March.
  • In-person talk: This can be held in a seminar room (up to 70 pax) or a lecture theatre (up to 180 pax or up to 300 pax).
  • Virtual setting: This is also an option.

Agenda typically includes:

  1. Introduction of the company
  2. Sharing by different speakers from various business units
  3. HR or TA team sharing on internship and graduate programmes, hiring process, and application periods
  4. Interns and NUS alumni sharing their experiences working at the company
  5. Q&A segment
  6. Networking segment

Employers are advised to first post their internship and job opportunities on NUS TalentConnect portal.

If the student application rate is low, you may send us a eDM to be scheduled to students for additional publicity. Consider including the following in your eDM:

  • Brief introduction of the company
  • Highlight the types of roles available and provide application links for more details
  • Reasons why students or recent graduates should apply
  • Graphics and visuals in the eDM design
  • Attachments with more detailed information

Field Service Projects are primarily for year 3 or 4 undergraduate students, working in groups of 3 to 5 on a part-time basis with an employer. There is no cost to employers except for out-of-pocket expenses related to the project. Visit here for more information.
