Wim A. Van der Stede
CIMA Professor of Accounting & Financial Management, London School of Economics
Professor Wim A. Van der Stede, PhD, is the CIMA Professor of Accounting & Financial Management at the London School of Economics, where he was Head of Department of Accounting for 10 years (2012-2022) and since then Dean of Extended Education. Wim’s research interests primarily focus on the study and teaching of performance measurement, evaluation, and incentives. Wim has published in several academic and practitioner journals in these areas and is an author of the leading textbook, Management Control Systems (Pearson). Wim has won several awards for his research, as well as for his teaching and service, including the AAA Notable Contribution to Management Accounting Literature Award (three times) and the AAA Outstanding International Educator Award. Wim was the President of the Management Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association (AAA), Chair of the Publications Committee of the European Accounting Association (EAA), and also served on the AAA Board as a Director, as well as on LSE’s Council (the university’s board) and its Finance and Estates Committee, and on the Finance Committee of the Royal Economics Society (RES). Wim earned his PhD (Economics), Master (Management), and Bachelor (Economics) degrees from Ghent University in his native Belgium, though with study exchanges/visits along the way, such as during the PhD at the University of Southern California.
