In Prof Weber’s lecture, he will discuss how people think about the future matters for the decisions they make today—from how much they spend and save to how they invest and respond to economic policy. Yet people’s expectations often differ from those predicted by standard economic models. Drawing on new evidence from households around the world, this talk explores how people form views about inflation and the economy, which patterns are surprisingly similar across countries, and where important differences remain. It also discusses what these findings can teach us about economic behavior and the design of better economic models and policies.
