Event Summary

NUS Business School's Centre of Governance, Institutions and Organisations (CGIO), together with CPA Australia (CPAA) and Singapore Institute of Directors (SID) launched the Singapore Governance and Transparency Index (SGTI) ranking results and key research findings on 1 August. The event attracted a high turnout of board directors, C- suites and senior executives and received extensive media coverage.

In his opening remarks at the SGTI forum, the chairman of the Singapore Exchange (SGX), Prof Tan Cheng Han commended the SGTI initiative for its importance to the market and SGX. He said: 'The GTI is of such importance to the market and SGX that GTI scores and rankings of companies over the past 6 years are displayed in the StockFacts section of the website, right next to data on companies' financials, dividend history and so on.'

The Singapore Governance and Transparency Index (SGTI) is a leading national benchmark developed by CGIO to assess companies' corporate governance disclosures and practises. This years' launch of the SGTI saw a new unified framework covering all listed companies, including REITs and Trusts entities.

The launch event featured a presentation by Assoc Prof Lawrence Loh, CGIO's Director followed by a robust panel discussion comprising industry leaders on the research findings and trends. The panellists shared their views on various matters of Singapore's corporate governance and how companies should broaden their focus to handle a wider range of stakeholders.

The forum attracted media coverage from The Business Times, Channel News Asia, The Straits Times, amongst other media reports on 2 August 2017.
