In our continuing series of CAMRI Lectures & Roundtables in tapping the advances in big data, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, crypto-assets and digital tokens, digital payment systems, Central Bank-issued Digital Currencies (CBDC), the FinTech start-up and digital bank ecosystem, and associated FinTech and crypto-asset regulations, the CAMRI Executive Roundtable Series on Thursday, 19 April 2018 from 10am – 11:30am at NUS Business School featured Dr Yao Qian, Director-General of the Digital Currency Research Lab at People’s Bank of China. His full bio is annexed below, he spoke on the topic, “Some Thoughts on Digital Currency”. Dr Yao’s talk covered the meaning of digital money, essence of virtual currency, China's regulatory policy on virtual currency, significance of issuing central bank digital currency (CBDC) and its quality, as well as the research and development of the CBDC. The Roundtable discussion commenced at 10:15am sharp, and was a strictly by-invitation only CAMRI event.

DR YAO QIAN’S BIO:

Dr Yao Qian was born in 1970. Holding a PhD in Computer Software of Nanjing University, he is a professorate senior engineer and part-time professor of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the China University of Political Science and Law and the Tongji University. He is currently the Head of the Institute of Digital Money of People’s Bank of China (PBC), Vice Director-General of the Technology Department of PBC, and Secretary-General of the China Financial Standardization Technical Committee. Dr YAO was Vice-Director of the IT Service Center of the China Securities Regulatory Commission from 1997 to 2002, Technology Director of the China Securities Depository and Clearing Corporation from 2003 to 2009, and Vice Director-General of the Credit Reference Center of PBC.
