About 50 NUS Business School undergraduate and graduate students gathered on Jan 16 for an insightful lecture on Smart Beta Investing and a panel discussion with Mr. Atsushi Yoshikawa (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nomura Real Estate and Distinguished Visiting Fellow at NUS Business School), Mr. Isao Uesaki (Senior Investment Officer of Nomura Asset Management), and Dr. Jason Hsu (Founder and CIO, Rayliant Global Advisors). The lecture was jointly hosted by Career Services and CAMRI at NUS Business School.
In his lecture, Mr. Yoshikawa shared his career journey at Nomura, beginning from when he first joined the bank in 1978. Long-time Rob Arnott (Research Affiliates) collaborator and legend in his own right, Dr. Hsu delivered a mini-masterclass on Markowitz’s Efficient Frontier and optimal portfolio construction. Mr. Uesaki also provided an insightful complementary session on factor investing and its applications.
Since Nomura Asset Management has their own suite of products based upon Research Affiliates’ Fundamental Index Strategy, the Chairman and CEO of Nomura Asset Management was also present at the lecture and interacted with our students.
The event ended with a robust panel discussion followed by Q&A, with 25 questions from our students, moderated by Prof. Joseph Cherian, Director of CAMRI.
