A native of Ventura, CA, he earned his undergraduate and Master\u2019s degrees from Brigham Young University and his Ph.D. in Accounting from Texas A&amp;M University. Before joining academia, he worked as a tax consultant for EY and as the Assistant Controller for a company near Salt Lake City, UT. He has taught Introduction to Financial Accounting and Advanced Tax Topics to undergraduate and Master\u2019s accounting students and doctoral seminars in taxation to Ph.D. students. He has presented before the U.S. Treasury \u2013 Office of Tax Analysis. His academic research, which is published or forthcoming in outlets such as <em>Journal of Accounting &amp; Economics<\/em>, <em>Journal of Accounting Research<\/em>, <em>The Accounting Review<\/em>, <em>Review of Accounting Studies<\/em>, and <em>Contemporary Accounting Research<\/em>, has been featured in media outlets including <em>The New York Times<\/em>, <em>Forbes<\/em>, and <em>CFO Magazine<\/em>.
