Event Summary

Organised with Singapore Institute of Directors (SID), and in collaboration with Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and Singapore Exchange (SGX), this session was an opportunity for SGX-listed companies to learn more about the methodology and assessment process of the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard for the Top 100 listed companies in Singapore. About 20 participants consisting of key personnel from the Investor Relations teams attended the event.

Mr. John Lim, immediate past chairman of the Singapore Institute of Directors, started off the event by showcasing on the statistical performance of companies in the five key aspects of Singapore’s corporate governance landscape. They ranged from how companies have performed in managing their shareholders’ rights and roles, disclosure and transparency in their corporate policies, to the responsibilities of the board.

The event saw a robust exchange of ideas as Professor Lawrence Loh guided the audience’s thinking with his interactive classroom-style approach in showcasing recent news articles, such as Singapore-listed companies that are leading in 2015. Some participants raised important questions, such as how companies have been preparing the Annual General Meeting minutes, in terms of the overall relevance of content. Both Professor Loh and Mr. Lim blended in their insightful perspectives as the participants shared on their companies’ board practices.

Mr. Lim and Professor Loh continued to engage with the participants with a short networking session after the event ended. At the same time, Mr Ibrahim, who is the Senior Research Assistant in this ASEAN project, clarified on a few selected infographics with a couple of the participants.
