BBA Scholarship Application

Objective

The Lam See Chiew Memorial Scholarship in Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy was conceived to identify and develop community leaders and social change makers in the NUS Business School. The scholarships are open to both undergraduate and graduate students in the BBA and MBA programmes. The scholarship programme resonates with ACSEP’s continuing efforts to advance understanding and the impactful practice of social entrepreneurship and philanthropy in Asia. ACSEP will thus work with the Lam See Chiew scholars to hone their community leadership and change maker skills to grow their social impact. It is hoped that these scholars would benefit from their engagement with ACSEP, both during and after their journey through NUS. The Lam See Chiew scholars can come together to build a fellowship that contributes meaningfully to community and the wider society.

Value of Scholarship

The scholarship is valued at S$6,000 and tenable only for the Academic Year (AY) in which it is awarded.

Eligibility

  • Any nationality without any constraints on applicants’ race, religion or gender
  • Successful applicants to or existing undergraduate students of the NUS Business School
  • Either demonstrates active interest in social entrepreneurship, philanthropy or non-profit sectors, or has volunteered consistently in social purpose organisations for at least one year
  • Demonstrates need to improve knowledge of market-oriented practices so he or she can be more effective in subsequent social change pursuits
  • Demonstrates evidence of personal qualities strongly resonating with social entrepreneurship, philanthropy and/or non-profit leadership, and illustrate how these have influenced their life choices so far
  • Maintaining good academic results, i.e., a minimum Cumulative Average Point (CAP) of 3.5

Commitment

The scholarship recipient will be required to participate actively in the Asia Centre for Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy (ACSEP).

  • Receive mentorship in social entrepreneurship mentorship programme
  • Social media, events and other capacity-building activities
  • Interface with student and alumni networks; assist ACSEP in growing the network
  • If attending an ACSEP sponsored event/activity, to produce a written opinion piece

The successful candidate would be expected to remain fully engaged with social entrepreneurship, philanthropy or non-profit sector post-graduation.

  • Essay (Max 300 words)
    • Analysis of the achievements and failures in social enterprise or social purpose organisations
    • Future plan for social change pursuits
    • How the NUS BBA programme will help in the social change pursuits
    • Demonstrate evidence of personal qualities strongly resonating with philanthropy, social entrepreneurship and/or non-profit leadership, and illustrate how these would influence their career path in the future

MBA Scholarship Application

  • Demonstrated need to improve knowledge of market-oriented practices so he/she can be more effective in subsequent social change pursuits
  • Demonstrated evidence of personal qualities strongly resonating with social entrepreneurship, philanthropy and/or non-profit leadership, and illustrate how these have influenced their career path thus far
  • Maintain good academic results, i.e., a minimum Cumulative Average Point (CAP) of 3.5

Objective

The NUSBSA Social Impact Prize Award is presented in recognition of business undergraduate students who have not only done well academically, but have also demonstrated their passion for community services and contributed meaningfully to society.

Eligibility

  • All full-time matriculated undergraduates (including Honours students) in NUS Business School
  • Applicants must have achieved a minimum Cumulative Average Point (CAP) of 3.2

Evaluation Criteria

  • Applicants must have demonstrated social impact contribution through engagements with socially driven organisations that lead to positive outcomes
  • Must have demonstrated evidence of personal qualities strongly resonating with social entrepreneurship, philanthropy and/or non-profit leadership
  • Must have demonstrated active interest in social entrepreneurship, philanthropy or non-profit sectors, or have worked for/volunteered consistently in such socially driven organisations for at least one year

Value of the Prize for Winner

Cash prize of S$2,000

The award winner must be committed to participate actively in the Asia Centre for Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy (ACSEP):

  • Social entrepreneurship mentorship programme – while being mentored, the recipient is also expected to in turn mentor other undergraduate students
  • Social media, events and other capacity building activities
  • Interface with student and alumni networks; assist ACSEP in growing the network
