NUS Business School (NUS BIZ) has been ratified as a full academic member of the esteemed CEMS (previously known as Community of European Management Schools and International Companies), making the School the first in Asia to be awarded this certification.
CEMS strategically picks the best school in each representative country for inclusion in its global initiative, making NUS BIZ the only school in Singapore to be included in the CEMS network.
CEMS is a strategic alliance of leading business schools and multinational companies. Academic institutions included in the CEMS network are widely reputed to provide the highest standards of teaching and research. CEMS provides a platform for these institutions to tie up with its grouping of corporate partners to provide students with real-world experience and practical business skills necessary to achieve the highest level of success.
To be a full CEMS Academic Member, an associate member school undergoes stringent assessment and validation by CEMS of the quality and rigor of the school's Master's in Management programme before it is proposed for election to become a full CEMS Academic Member.
As a full academic member of CEMS, NUS BIZ will be able to offer and conduct the highly popular and prestigious CEMS Master in International Management (CEMS MIM) at its campus from August 2009.
CEMS MIM is an international joint degree which is delivered in conjunction with a Master’s degree from a CEMS member school. NUS students accepted into the programme will be awarded the CEMS MIM together with the School’s Master of Science in Management [MSc(Mgt)].
Available to only a select group of Master’s students of member schools who meet the strict selection criteria, the programme promises to impart the essential business know-how and expertise that managers need to succeed in today’s global business environment.
CEMS MIM was designed by academic and business leaders and marries a university education with valuable business expertise to offer students keen insight into management best practices. CEMS also fosters faculty cooperation in terms of joint teaching, research and doctoral education.
Since its inception four years ago, the one-year full-time CEMS MIM programme has been consistently placed in the top three in the Financial Times’ Master’s In Management ranking.
Previously a CEMS associate academic member, NUS BIZ is one of six schools to be recognised as a full academic member this year. Representing four continents, the schools are top-rated institutions of business, economics and management. They are the University of Sydney (Australia), Fundacao Getulio Vargas-EAESP (Brazil), EGADE-Tec de Monterrey (Mexico), Faculdade de Economia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal) and St. Petersburg State University (Russia).
The ratification took place at the 2008 CEMS Annual Events, which coincided with its 20th anniversary celebrations from 27 – 29 Nov 2008. The event was attended by over 2,500 members of the CEMS community, comprising international students, alumni, academic members and corporate partners. The deans of 25 top business schools and universities were also present.
