The roundtable, organised by CGIO, centred on the theme of SOE reform in Vietnam. More than 70 participants, who were regional business executives and managers, Vietnamese government officials, economists, policy analysts as well as experts of the field, joined the event.
Dr Markus Taussig presented his findings from CGIO's latest study in the trilogy of SOEs in Asia which is sponsored by Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). In his presentation titled "From Control to Market: Time for Real SOE Reform in Vietnam?", Dr Taussig noted that SOEs still accounted for about 30% of the country's GDP, and set up the debate for challenges in releasing the primary brake on Vietnam's economic growth.
Thereafter, an invigorating discussion was brought together by the distinguished panelists who shared their perspectives, experience and insights into the current situation and obstacles of Vietnam's SOE privatisation programme. Furthermore, exchange of information and viewpoints from the participants who were practitioners and investors residing in Singapore added even more depth to the rich and lively dialogue.
A networking cocktail, which provided a platform for continued sizzling discussion among the participants and speakers, concluded the roundtable.
