Application

 1. Where can I to get a copy of the application form?

 

For applicants who hold a passport from China, Hongkong, Macau and Taiwan, you need to apply directly to Peking University. This is a requirement by Peking University as Chinese Nationals would have to take the Chinese nation-wide unified MBA entrance common examination in January.

 

All other international or Singapore applicants may apply direct to NUS Business School. The application form is only available online at mba.nus.edu. The Application window is opened from October 2008 to March 2009.

2. How many intakes are there per year?

 

There is only ONE intake per academic year. 

 

3. When is the deadline for application?

 

For the Aug/Sep 09 intake, the deadline for application is on 28th February 2009.

Admissions

1. What are the admission requirements?

 

  • A good bachelor degree
  • A minimum of three years full-time work experience (after graduating with a bachelor's degree) at the time of admission.
  • A good Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score is required.
  • Applicants are required to attend selection interviews conducted by Peking University and NUS.
  • Applicants who hold a passport from China, Hongkong, Macau and Taiwan would be required to sit for the Chinese nation-wide unified MBA entrance common examination held once a year (January) in China.

Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) 

 1. What is Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)?


The GMAT is a test widely used by business schools to assess the qualifications of applicants for advanced study in business and management. It is the responsibility of the applicant to authorize GMAC to send the official scores report to NUS.

 

When making scores requests, please use NUS GMAT Code DRT-MK-35 for Full Time MBA or DRT-MK-59 for Part Time MBA.

2. What is the cost of registration fee for the GMAT?

 

The registration fee is US$250.

 

 

3. How long is my GMAT score valid?

 

The GMAT score is valid for five years.

 


4. Is GMAT compulsory?

 

Yes, GMAT is compulsory. There will be no waiver.

 

To speed up your application, you are encouraged to fax us your unofficial score after completing the GMAT.  Our fax number is +65-68724423. You will still be required to request for GMAC to send your official score to us.

 

 

5. What is the acceptable GMAT score?

 

The Admissions Committee will review your application and assess your profile as a whole (work experience, undergraduate grades, essays in the online application, interviews etc). There is no minimum score but a GMAT score of 600 will be a good gauge.

 

Academic Matters

1. What is the duration of the NUS MBA Double Degree with PKU Programme?
 

For the full-time programme, the minimum period of candidature is 2 years and maximum period of candidature is 4 years.

 

For the part-time programme (i.e. full-time PKU and part-time NUS), it is typically a 3-year programme. The maximum period of candidature is 5 years.

 

 

2. What is the academic calendar for the NUS MBA Double Degree with PKU Programme?

For the full-time programme, there are two schedules, PKU-PKU-NUS-NUS or PKU-NUS-NUS-PKU.

For the Part-Time Programme (i.e. full-time PKU and part-time NUS), students will do the NUS MBA as a part time student but still has to complete the PKU MBA in Beijing full time over 2 semesters.

 

Students can either choose to

  • start with this Double Degree programme, completing Semester 1 & 2 in PKU, before embarking on the NUS MBA as a part time student

    OR
  • spend the first few semesters in NUS taking modules that can be mapped over to the NUS MBA Double Degree with PKU programme, and then following the programme structure of spending the stipulated semesters in PKU.

 

 

3. Do you offer a specialisations under the NUS MBA Double Degree with PKU?

 

No, students are not able to graduate with a specialisation under this programme. However, students have the flexibility to choose to do some electives under the specialisations they are interested in. 

 

 

4. Do we need to submit 2 thesis?

 

No, students are only required to submit their thesis to Peking University for grading. Students are also required to do oral defence for their thesis. Students will be required to submit a copy of their final and completed thesis to NUS.

 


5. Is there any financial aid available to students from the NUS MBA Double Degree with PKU Programme?

There are a few NUS Study awards available to students based on merit. These awards will cover a portion of the NUS MBA tuition fees.

Immigration Matters

1. How do I apply for the entry visa and student pass? 

 

For nationals of countries (such as China, India, Vietnam, Bangladesh and Myanmar) requiring visas for entry to Singapore, the Business School will apply for the student pass on your behalf. Once your application is approved, a copy of the in-principle approval (IPA) letter issued by Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority(ICA) will be sent to you. With this copy of the IPA letter, you should be able to enter Singapore within the period stated in the letter without applying for additional entry visa.

 

You will receive the original IPA letter from the NUS MBA Office on Matriculation Day and you will use this letter to apply for your Student Pass at the ICA counter. For more information about immigration-related issues, please use the following links: http://www.ica.gov.sg/

 


2. Can I get sponsorship for my spouse or children?

 

NUS does not offer sponsorship of spouses or children of students. Students accompanied by spouses/children must apply for their Social Visit Passes on their own at the Singapore Immigration & Registration.

 


3. Can international students work on a part-time basis?

 

Full-time students should have completed at least one semester to work part-time during the semesters. International full-time students are also restricted to working a maximum of 16 hours per week during the regular semesters. Students who wish to work more than 16 hours per week during semesters must obtain approval from the Singapore Immigraton and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). This ICA restriction is not applicable during vacation breaks.

 

Scholarship holders must obtain approval from the NUS MBA Office and their scholarship sponsors before working part-time. This approval will be subject to satisfactory academic performance

 


4. Is there any medical insurance for graduate students?

 

All full-time international students are required to take up our Group Medical Insurance Scheme (GMIS) that covers hospitalization/surgical expenses, unless they are able to show proof that they have subscribed to a similar medical insurance scheme. Accomodation

1. Is University accommodation available to graduate students?

 

Graduate students may apply to reside in the University's hostels, subject to availability. The Residential Services section of the Office of Student Affairs provides assistance to students on accommodation.

 

2. Do you have accommodation for married students?

 

Married postgraduates can apply for the leasing of Studio Apartments at Prince George's Park, which is on-campus. Alternatively, the Residential Services has a register/database of rooms/apartments in nearby private housing estates on lease.
