Management Practicum (Guidelines)

 

NUS MBA students can choose to register for Management Practicum during their course of study upon approval by the Academic Director.

 

The Management Practicum aims to achieve the following objectives:
a. Increase the practical relevance of the program
b. Provide opportunities for students to apply the concepts and theories to business situations
c. Strengthen linkages with the industry by offering the expertise available in the NUS school on specific projects

d. Broaden the menu of course offerings in terms of pedagogical approaches

 
Current Projects

i)    Robotics for Silver Industry (supervisor Marleen Dieleman at )

ii)   Stereoscopic flickr and youtube (Supervisor Andrew Ng at

iii)  Koobits (Supervisor Sarah Cheah at )

     

For projects i) to iii), the team shall comprise 2 NUS MBA students and these will work with one or two engineering PhD students. The task is to write a business plan based on the above NUS inventions which have commercial potential, and will be judged by experienced venture capitalists. Each project will be awarded 4MCs upon completion from 1 Aug 2009 onwards.  

 

 

  • Interested students are to contact the supervisors listed for each project as well as Professor Hang Chang Chieh at  from the Faculty of Engineering.. The duration to complete the project is to be determined with the project owner but would last for minimum of 1 semester.
  • Once the teams are selected and confirmed, the NUS MBA students are to formally write in to the NUS MBA office to register the 4MCs into the system. Students need to write to studentdevelopment@nus.edu.sg with their full name, matriculation no., contact no., and indicating the project and the supervisor assigned.

 

    iv)  NUH Cultural Change

     

     

     

    •  For project (iv), interested students are asked to form a team of between 2 to 4 persons with the pre-requisite background as described in the project scope. Teams can contact the project owner for more information regarding its nature. All team applications to the project will be sent to the NUS MBA office at  with their full name, matriculation no., contact no. As only 1 team can be assigned to this, selection will be based on best fit in meeting the requirements of the project owner, and in consultation with the MBA Academic Director. The successful team can also seek their own academic supervisor for this project, subject to agreement by the MBA Academic Director. This project will be awarded 4MCs upon completion from 1 Aug 2009 onwards and duration should be for at least 1 semester. Project deliverables and time frame will also be subject to agreement with the project owner as well as the grading supervisor.
