Absence from Classes
Regular class attendance is strongly encouraged and students should not miss more than 3 consecutive classes or a total of 3 classes. There will be marking of attendance by the respective lecturers.
A student will be deemed absent from class if he/she
Was not in class, without providing his/her lecturer with a medical certificate issued by a qualified medical practitioner; or
Was late or left at any point before the end of class without providing his/her lecturer a good and satisfactory reason for doing so.
If a student leaves in the middle of a class without taking a quiz, test or exercise that is being conducted, and without providing a good and satisfactory reason to the instructor, the student will be deemed to have sat and failed the quiz, test or exercise.
Leave of Absence
- If a student anticipates that he/she will be absent for more than 3 classes in one semester, he/she may apply for leave of absence for a minimum of one semester and a maximum period of two years.
- All applications for leave of absence have to be sent to the MBA Curriculum Manager before the payment of fees deadline.
- The leave of absence is applicable only to regular semesters.
- A student who requires a leave of absence for more than two years is required to withdraw from the program.
- Fees need not be paid if the leave is granted for the whole semester. Tuition fee charges are deferred to the semester when studies are resumed.
- Students applying for a LOA in their first semester in NUS will be required to pay the tuition fees for the first semester according to the fee payment schedule.
A non-refundable fee of S$50 (inclusive GST) will be charged for each LOA application.
Please note that Leave of Absence (LOA) is counted against the maximum candidature for graduate students.
It is the student's responsibility to notify the relevant module instructors regarding absences from scheduled academic activities. Students who are absent for an extended period without first obtaining approval for leave will be regarded as being absent without permission and are liable to have their registration status terminated.
During official University examination periods, no leave will be granted. However, students may request for special consideration due to medical and other emergencies by writing in officially to MBA Programs Office. Please see Examinations Rules and Regulations for more information.
