The following questions are regularly posed. We hope that they can clarify your doubts.
ACADEMIC MATTERS
Applicable only for Part Time students (Intake year of 2005 & 2006)
I may exceed the 68 MCs for graduation. In fact, I would like to do so, but on an audit basis. Will I be penalized with higher fees? Can I?
If you have fulfilled 68 MCs and conferred for graduation but yet keen to audit a module, you can audit any MBA modules(s) under the Lifelong Learning Program (LLLP) at an administrative fee of S$200. You may submit the LLLP form obtainable via GEARS and cheque made payable to “National University of Singapore” to the MBA Office.
How many modules can I audit during my MBA Program?
Students may be allowed to audit up to TWO modules during the program. If you have been conferred for graduation, fulfilled graduation requirement and wants to audit a module, you will have to apply under the Lifelong Learning Program.
Are all current PT students affected by the new MBA curriculum?
Only current PT students (intake year of 2005 & 2006) will integrate to the new MBA program structure. However, students who are advanced in the program will face only minimal changes.
How many Modular Credits (MCs) or modules do I have to complete to graduate?
The graduation requirements are unchanged: you have to complete a minimum of 68 MCs, and you have to complete the specified core curriculum.
I am a PT student; do I have an option of completing the old core or the new core?
Yes. Your choice really depends on how far along you are in the program. If you have completed your core modules, you are only really affected in having the option to specialize. If you have not completed your core modules, you face an important issue: you must complete either the old or the new core curriculum in order to graduate.
What does completing the core curriculum mean?
Completing the old curriculum means completing the 10 modules listed in the old core. Completing the new core curriculum means completing the 10 modules listed in the new core. Note that for completing the core, you should focus on the number of modules to be completed, not the MCs.
I have taken 4 core modules (16 MCs), so how many core modules do I need to fulfill under the new MBA curriculum?
For example, you have completed 4 core modules as below and if you decide to shift to the new curriculum, you will need to complete the remaining core modules (highlighted in bold). You must complete all the remaining modules in the new core.
New Revised Core (four MCs, unless indicated)
BMA5001 Managerial Economics
BMA5002 Statistics (renamed; 2 MCs)
BMA5003 Financial Accounting
BMA5004 Management & Organization (2 MCs)
BMA5008 Financial Management
BMA5009 Marketing Management
BMA5010 Managing Operations (2 MCs)
BMA5013 Corporate Strategy
BMA5016 Leadership in Organizations (2MCs)
BMA5112 Asia Pacific Business
Completing the core doesn't mean fulfilling either the number of MCs or the number of core courses. It means completing all the courses in the list of either the new core or the old core.
The above example makes sense, but does not quite explain my problem.
We realize that your issues will be specific because of the modules you have completed. Please feel free to email the MBA Academic Director (Prof Nitin Pangarkar) at bizbox2@nus.edu.sg, to resolve any doubts.
What if I switch to the new curriculum and complete more than the 32 core curriculum MCs required in the new core?
This is not a problem - you will simply reduce the number of elective MCs you enroll for. You still need to complete 68 MCs to graduate.
If I have completed all of the core modules, should I switch to the new MBA program structure?
The changes to the core do not affect you. Of course you still have the option of specializing, but otherwise you will not be affected.
I have completed 20 MCs of existing core modules, how many more core modules do I have to complete??
During this transition period, it is essential that you focus on core modules, not core MCs. You should first identify which additional modules of the new curriculum you need to complete. Once you have done this, you will know how many more core MCs you need.
Are there any pre-requisite for Asia Pacific Business?
No. None of the core modules have pre-requisites. However, you should take Asia Pacific Business and Corporate Strategy after completing the other core modules. You should obviously complete the other core modules before commencing your electives.
Is Asia Pacific Business a substitute for Macro & International Economics?
No. Obviously, the modules are related, but they do not overlap. I have completed Macro & International Economics, and will be working to complete the new Core. Do I have to do Asia Pacific Business? Yes, under the new core, you will have to do Asia Pacific Business.
Will 2 MCs modules be shorter that 4 MCs modules?
Each 2 MC module will continue to meet once a week for three hours from 6 pm t 9 pm, but will only do so for 7 weeks.

If I have met the 68 MCs for graduation requirement and wish to take additional modules, will I need to pay a module fee?

I would like to defer my graduation so that I can take additional MBA modules, how do I proceed?

Students on deferment are not eligible for scholarships and awards previously conferred. A non-refundable administrative fee of S$50 is charged for each deferment application. There is a module fee applicable*
How can I stay in Singapore to seek for employment when my student pass has expired upon graduation?

Can I switch from a general MBA to specialize in Real Estate (RE) or Health Care Management (HCM) when I am a matriculated student?
The specializations for RE and HCM are organized in conjunction with our partner faculties of Real Estate and Graduate Medical Studies. As such, selection and interviews are conducted in conjunction with members from these faculties to ascertain the most suitable students to get the most out of these courses. These interviews and selection are typically done only at the application stage of the NUS MBA. To switch into these specializations after you have already matriculated would be on a case by case basis, and depending on your stage of studies and decided in conjunction with agreement from the respective partner faculty.
I have been admitted and matriculated as a student for the RE/HCM speciality. Can I switch OUT of this specialization after matriculation into the general NUS MBA stream?
No, students admitted under the RE or HCM specializations will not be allowed to switch out of these after matriculation. The specializations for RE and HCM are organized in conjunction with our partner faculties of Real Estate and Graduate Medical Studies. As such, selection and interviews are conducted in conjunction with members from these faculties to ascertain the most suitable students to benefit from these courses. Students are admitted based strictly on acceptance into these specialisations, and resources and planning are then put in place to ensure the respective students go through the required modules to qualify for their chosen specializations.
When can I select my specialization for Finance/Marketing/Strategy & Organization in the NUS MBA? Are these specializations indicated in my final NUS MBA degree?
You may select your specialization for Finance/Marketing/Strategy & Organization during your module registration (including special terms). Specialization will reflect in the transcript but not on the degree scroll. Please note that only one specialization will be reflected on the transcript.
