Scholarships

For the August 2010 Intake, we have more than S$1 million dollars worth of scholarships and awards for deserving candidates, for all our MBA programmes. Kindly refer to the details under each of the scholarships & awards for the means of application and scope of coverage.

The NUS MBA Study Awards
The study awards will be disbursed to deserving full time MBA candidates:
 
(1) The most prestigious NUS MBA Dean’s Award is equivalent to the prevailing full tuition fee
(2) The highly coveted NUS MBA Director’s Award is prized at half the prevailing tuition fee
(3) The NUS MBA Merit Award is a headstart for aspiring industry leaders prized at a quarter of the prevailing tuition fee
 
All full time MBA applicants who have accepted the admissions offer will be automatically considered for these awards – the amounts will be offset from tuition fees over three semesters. To be considered, all scholarship documents and requirements must be submitted by 31 January 2010.  The NUS MBA Study Awards are open to all nationalities.


Asian Development Bank - Japan Scholarship:

The ADB-Japan Scholarship programme is awarded annually by Government of Japan to citizens of developing countries that are members of the ADB. Up to 11 scholarships are available for award annually to full-time students in the MBA programmes. Please refer to the eligibility requirements and selection criteria.

The ABD-JSP provides:
- Full tuition fees
- A monthly subsistence and housing allowance
- An allowance for books and instructional materials
- Medical insurance
- Travel expenses

NUS-APEC Scholarship:

One APEC Scholarship, funded by the Singapore Ministry of Education, is awarded annually to candidates from APEC member economies who are admitted to the Full-time NUS MBA programme.

Eligibility requirements:
- Applicants from the 20 APEC economies, excluding Singapore
- Admitted to full-time NUS MBA

Selection Criteria:
- Overall qualifications of the candidate
- Candidates who have not previously studied abroad
- Preference will be given to government officials

The NUS-APEC Scholarship provides
- Monthly stipend of S$1,300
- Tuition, health insurance, and other approved fees, allowances and expenses
- One time book allowance of S$500
- One time settling in allowance of S$500
- Cost of travel from home country to Singapore
- Cost of student exchange participation, up to S$6,000
- Cost of return travel from Singapore to home country on graduation

 

Applicants who accepted the admissions offer will be automatically considered. To be considered, all admission application documents must be submitted by 31 January 2010.


Saw Centre MBA Finance Scholarship:

This scholarship is awarded by Saw Centre for Financial Studies to Singapore Citizens pursuing full time MBA at NUS Business School. There is no bond attached.

The scholarship provides:

Scholarship recipients in the first year of their MBA programme will each receive a monthly stipend of S$1,000 for 12 months starting from August, the beginning of each academic year. Scholarship recipients in the final semester or last two semesters of their MBA programme will each be awarded a monthly stipend of S$2,000, up to 6 months or 12 months respectively, or up to and including the month of graduation, whichever is earlier. 

Selection criteria:
 
i)           Good academic results based on award of first degree                                
             (For applicants in their final one or two semesters, the additional criterion of 
             good academic results achieved in previous semesters will be considered.)
 
ii)           Keen interest in finance
 
iii)          Relevant work experience in finance
 
iv)          Strong referral letters
 
v)           Family financial background
(This criterion of financial needs will be considered if there are two or more applicants of equal standing.)
 

Conditions of award:

Scholarship recipients in their first year of the MBA programme must commit to read "Financial Management" as a core module, and "Investment Analysis and Management" as an elective. Scholarship recipients who receive the award in their final one or two semesters must complete at least 24 modular credits under the Finance Specialization before graduation.

SPRING Singapore's Management Development Scholarship (MDS):
The Management Development Scholarship aims to raise the next generation of leaders for the trailblazer companies of tomorrow. Through a co-funding scholarship arrangement to pursue renowned graduate business programmes at leading local universities, MDS brings together the potent combination of promising young executives who have high leadership potential and dynamic, high-growth SMEs.
 
MDS will provide funding at the following levels:

  • Full Time MBA: SPRING Singapore will provide grant value of up to 70% of expenses which includes tuition fees, basic stipend and other related expenses, including monthly allowance for full-time MBA scholars.
  • Part Time MBA: SPRING Singapore will provide grant value of up to 90% of tuition fees and other related expenses. The SME will bear the full salaries throughout the course of study.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Currently working in a SME or interested in joining one
  • A Singapore citizen or Singapore permanent resident
  • Have less than 5 years of working experience

You will need to:

  • Apply to a recognized academic programme
  • Go through a joint selection process by SPRING and the participating SME
  • Serve a 3-month internship in the SME prior to embarking on the approved MBA course if you are a new recruit. Performance must be deemed satisfactory by the SME.
  • Serve a bond of up to 2 years in the SME upon completion of your studies.

Tan Kah Kee Postgraduate Scholarship
In commemoration of the invaluable contributions made by the late philanthropist Mr Tan Kah Kee, in the field of education, the Tan Kah Kee Foundation has been awarding Postgraduate Scholarships since 1983. The scholarships are open to Singapore citizens and permanent residents who are pursuing full-time Master degree or PhD of any discipline, regardless of race or religion. Candidates are appraised on their academic achievements, outstanding personal character and bilingual capabilities. The scholarship will be awarded annually and is bond-free.

The application is open in May every year. Shortlisted applicants will be informed to attend an interview in the month of June or July. Scholarship amount for those studying overseas or local universities are S$10,000 & S$7,000 respectively.

Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship
The Scholarship is synonymous with both prestige and a willingness to serve Singapore. It marks Singapore's continuous effort to recognise outstanding individuals with the aptitude and inclination to contribute to our society. With generous contributions from the public, the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship Fund was set up in 1991 in honour of Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.

Scholars can either pursue Master's or PhD programmes at local or overseas universities. There is no restriction the course of study.

The scholarship is highly selective. Applicants must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Singapore Citizen with outstanding academic records (at least a Second Upper Class Honours Degree); and
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities and be active in social, community services or sports.

Applicants who are pursuing a Master's Programme in General Management should preferably have at least 4 years of working experience. Public Officers are required to submit their applications through their Chief Executive Officers or Permanent Secretaries.

Besides receiving this once-off sum of S$10,000, successful applicants will be given an annual allowance of S$50,000. This Scholarship does not carry any bond.

Ian Ferguson Scholarship:
The scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to students who have distinguished themselves through volunteer work at NGOs or charitable organisations to pursue the NUS MBA. One scholarship of S$28,000 will be awarded each year.

Selection criteria:
- Overall qualifications of the candidate
- Financial need
- Active participation in volunteer work at approved NGOs or charitable organisations

Conditions of scholarship: The recipient is required to maintain an average CAP of 3.5 throughout the programme. Failure to comply will nullify the scholarship.

Lien Foundation Scholarship:
The Lien Foundation Scholarship for Social Service Leaders is a prestigious postgraduate scholarship open to outstanding staff from voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs) and members of the public. The Scholarship aims to support candidates excellent academic records, a notable performance record and potential to take up leadership positions in VWOs. Scholars can pursue the full-time or part-time NUS MBA.

The Scholarship provides:
- Tuition fees
- A maintenance allowance for full-time students
- A book allowance and other compulsory fees

Eligibility requirements:
- Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Good academic results, with a good Honours degree and GCE A Level results
- Strong track record of leadership and initiation of innovative/major projects
- Strong commitment to the social service sector

Additional criteria for staff of VWOs:
- Outstanding track record in social services
- Minimum 3 years of service in a VWO
- Strong recommendation from Executive Director/Chairman/President of the governing Board

Additional criteria for the public:
- Possess relevant work experience (in management) with strong determination to work in the sector
- Good track record in social or community services

Conditions of scholarship:
Applicants must be prepared to fulfill a bond in VWOs and other social service agencies upon completion of their studies. The duration of the bond will depend on the nature and value of the scholarship.

International Business Fellowship (IBF) Programme for the Double Degree with Peking University
The Asian Business Fellowship Programme (ABF) aims to develop a pool of talents with in-depth knowledge of the business environment in emerging Asian markets. The programme supports Singapore-based companies in training fresh graduates or mid-level executives to acquire business knowledge and build networks in the supported markets of China, India, the Middle East and Vietnam.

 

The ABF provides one time settling-in allowance of $6,000 and a lump sum of $80,000 to cover the school fees and living expenses.

 

Eligibility requirements:
- Admission criteria for the full time NUS MBA Double Degree with Peking University
- At least 3 years of working experience
- Active participation in social or community service demonstrating strong leadership  qualities.

- Singapore citizen

 

Conditions of scholarship:
Upon completion of programme, scholar is required to serve in Singapore-based companies for 2 years to undertake work related to the country where they have studied in. To apply, please visit www.iesingapore.com/ibf for more information and the application form.

 

Peh Chin Hua Bursary
The Peh Chin Hua bursary provides financial aid to one full-time student each from the MBA and the IMBA programmes. The bursary is open only to Singaporeans, and will be distributed as follows:

Aug 2010 - Jul 2011
- One study award for an IMBA student of $8,000
- One bursary for an MBA student of S$3,000

Mohammed bin Rashid Fellows Programme
Overview:

The Fellows Program aims to identify talented and ambitious youth from across the region, and offer them scholarships to pursue graduate studies in management, finance or leadership at top-notch international universities. The programme will cover all financial costs related to tuition, books, accommodation, stipend and travel for the full duration of the Fellowship. Upon completion of their studies, the Fellows are legally bound to return to the region for at least two years of employment in the public or private sector.
 
Eligibility:

This highly competitive programme will award 2-5 fellowships annually per partner university to qualified candidates who demonstrate leadership capabilities, dedication and commitment to the region’s human and socio-economic progress. Nationals from 22 regional countries are eligible to apply. These countries are:  Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, UAE and Yemen.
 
Selection Criteria:

The qualified candidate, who must also possess professional experience in the region, should submit a completed MBRF Fellows application. Additionally, he/she must show intellectual maturity, social awareness, ethical consciousness and a strong commitment to the Arab world and the region, and its development needs.

A successful candidate’s application should reveal that he/she is a professionally experienced, motivated individual with the potential to make a positive impact in the Arab world and the region. These attributes must be outlined in a clear, concise and compelling manner.

While an interview is not compulsory, in some cases, MBRF may feel that an interview would shed more light on the candidate’s merit.

Sampoerna Foundation - Singapore Education MBA Scholarships:
The Programme aims to groom Indonesia's future business leaders. Sampoerna Foundation provides scholarships to two outstanding young Indonesians to pursue an MBA in Singapore. Upon completing the programme, scholars are expected to return to Indonesia to transfer their knowledge to their fellow citizens. Deadline for submission of Sampoerna Foundation Scholarship follows The NUS MBA application deadline.

CapitaLand International Scholarship
CapitaLand, which is the largest real estate company in Southeast Asia, believes in investing for the future. With this commitment, comes the search for special individuals, both local and international, who share this vision and are driven to bringing this calling to the next level. The CapitaLand International Scholarship is aimed at the few individuals whose ambitions dovetail with CapitaLand's vision of building people to build for people.

 

The award is valid for full-time studies at National University of Singapore for The NUS MBA Specialisation in Real Estate. Scholars are required to serve a 2 – 3 year bond with CapitaLand after graduation. The CapitaLand International Scholarship is open to Vietnamese and citizens of the People's Republic of China.
  

IMBA Mandarin Alumni Award

The award is valid for deserving applicants from the People’s Republic of China and who are applying for the Double Degree programme with Peking University.   1 award of S$2000 will be given each academic year. All full time applicants who have accepted the admission offer will be automatically considered for the award.

Should you not qualify for a scholarship or award during admissions, you are still eligible for these awards when you join us in the course in recognition for either academic excellence or outstanding contributions to the NUS MBA community.
