National Hydrogen Conference 2005

Competition Background

  • Organized by National Hydrogen Association and the US Department of Energy (March 2005)
  • The National Hydrogen Conference 2005 contest generated interest in over 300 students from more than 90 universities in 20 countries, and major energy and automotive companies, researchers and academia from all over the world attended the event.
  • Final-year MBA student Devendar Agarwal participated in the National Hydrogen Conference 2005 while on exchange in US's Cornell University in 2004.
  • His team's project 'Hydrogen Power Park' won an 'Honourable Mention' Award in the international contest organised by the National Hydrogen Association and the US Department of Energy, held in Washington, DC.
  • "My contribution to the project was in the areas of economic feasibility and financial analysis," says Devendar. "We were excited with our project as we had developed a renewable, clean and green energy source."
  • 'Hydrogen Power Park' emits zero net carbon dioxide, and demonstrates the feasibility of a long-term, sustainable infrastructure for the hydrogen economy that is capable of producing the next generation of energy. Their design and business proposition will be published by the National Hydrogen Association.

Intaglio Business Challenge 2005

Team 'Best of Singapore': An Li Shin, Ryan Mbagaya,

Competition Background

  • Organized by Indian Institute of Management- Calcutta (Dec 2005)
  • Intaglio 2005-06 is an ISO 9001:2000 certified Business School festival organized by the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C).
  • Despite stiff competition from Harvard, Kellogg, Wharton and the top 25 Indian b-schools, the team from NUS won first place in the Philips Sound of Music contest and the McKinsey Consulting Knights contest.
  • Intaglio is a series of competitions and seminars organized by IIM-C. It consists of four premier case competitions sponsored by McKinsey Consulting and Phillips Electronics, and eight MBA course-related quizzes.

 Cerebration 2005

 

Competition Background

  • In this first Global Business Challenge initiated by the NUS Business School, 323 teams from 61 business schools representing 18 countries signed up for the competition.
  • Eight teams from six countries flew into Singapore to compete in the semifinals on 15 May. Five teams were eventually selected from these eight to go into the finals. The final five were challenged with strategic twisters, and complicated and unforeseen business dilemmas to solve within 24 hours.
  • Ivey Gurus from the Richard Ivey School of Business in Canada won the first prize of $15,000. The second prize of S$10,000 went to Equipo Reto from Spain's Instituto de Empresa. Singapore's home team, Sun Tzu from NUS Business School took away the third prize of S$5,000. All three teams presented compelling strategies for hypothetical Singapore companies to expand into their home countries.
