NUS Overseas Colleges

"By the way, just to update you on what I am doing here in the valley ... My team and I here in the valley got into the finals for Cisco/Deloitte case competition! And my other teams got 1st runner-up for Zazzle Inc Case competition and 2nd runner-up in Venture Capitalist Case Competition 2 months ago, beating Berkeley and Santa Clara Uni. Too bad I had to represent Stanford in all three competitions but I do mention I am from NUS Biz School to people. J I am also trying to initiate a NUS Overseas College consulting project here in the valley." Elaine Hee, 2008

The NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC) program is an innovative program with a strong emphasis on technology entrepreneurship. The program includes an internship in a high-technology start-up located in an entrepreneurial and academic hub. Selected candidates will spend 12 months with a high-technology start-up and take entrepreneurship courses at a partner university.

There are currently six NUS Overseas Colleges; they are: NUS College in Silicon Valley that was established in 2001 (partnering Stanford University), NUS College in Bio Valley that was established in 2002 (partnering University of Pennsylvania and Wharton Business School), NUS College in Shanghai that was established in 2003 (partnering Fundan University), NUS College in Stockholm in 2005 (partnering Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (Kungliga Tekniska hogskolan, KTH)), NUS College in Bangalore in 2006 (partnering Indian Institute of Science; for graduate students) and NUS College in Beijing that was established in 2009 (partnering Tsinghua University).

This program is part of a Bachelor's (with Technopreneurship Minor) or a Bachelor's (Honours, with Technopreneurship Minor) degree. NUS students who participate in the 12-month NOC program can obtain up to 40 modular credits. There are two intakes in a year---January and July.

Students on the NUS Overseas Colleges program will be full-time interns and part-time students. The program is financially and academically neutral to the student. Students will pay only regular NUS school fees while on the program, and will be paid a stipend by the internship company. Students may be fully integrated into their host universities' activities.
