BBA (Accountancy) Program

Accountancy Internship

Students who are in the third year of their BBA (Accountancy) programme are required to complete a mandatory 10-week accounting or finance related internship before the commencement of Semester 2 in the modified academic term structure. This is part of the academic requirement, prior to graduation. Students should have completed a considerable number of accounting modules so as to be equipped with the necessary accounting knowledge to perform well on the job. Internship which is purely administrative in nature will not be recognized as a fulfillment of the compulsory internship requirement.

In Academic Year 2008/2009, the compulsory internship will be from 24 November 2008 to 30 January 2009. This is planned in response to industry’s call for interns to be placed during their peak period from December to February.

Students embarking on this internship should select modules that are based on 100% Continuous Assessment in Semester 1 so that their internship will not be disrupted by examinations. The modules for Semester 2 have to be all Accounting related as classes of these modules will be specially arranged to start in the week of 2 February 2009 after the completion of the internship. Students are required to commit to the entire duration of the 10 week compulsory internship during which no foreseen leave, except to sit for any exams,  should be applied for.

Biz Career Services will be working closely with the major accounting firms to source for suitable internship opportunities for our Accountancy students.  Career Services will publicize the opportunities via the regular email announcement and post the positions on it's TalentEDGE portal for application. You will have to apply and submit your cover letter, resume and other required documents if you are keen to pursue the positions that are available.

Once you have secured an internship, please come by the Career Sevices office to complete the internship agreement form prior to commencement of your attachment.  Biz Career Services will be sending your internship appraisal form to the respective firms, two weeks before the end of your internship.

At the end of your compulsory internship, you are required to submit a two-page (single-line spacing) internship report to Career Services within two weeks. This report (together with the appraisal form) will be reviewed by the school to determine if you have fulfilled the internship requirement. Click here for the internship report guidelines.

If a student in the Accountancy programme cannot take part in the compulsory November-January internship in his/her third year, he/she should write to the Head of Department of Accounting to seek approval. In the application for approval, the student should state the reasons, the proposed substitute period of internship, the completed Accounting (ACC) modules, and also lay out his/her proposed remaining sequence of ACC modules. Approval by the Department will be based on merit of the case. Click here for the compulsory internship waiver form.

Students can choose to do an internship in another industry during the May-August summer vacation period in addition to the mandatory internship during the modified academic term.
