2nd Oct 2003 marked the second birthday of the Marketing First initiative developed by the Department of Marketing, NUS Business School. This year, it was held at Lola, at One Fullerton. Some 200 students, staff and spouses attended this event that was filled with good food, drinks and fun. Students mingled with professors on a casual and light-hearted manner. They even got to see their professors let their hair down in three staff performances. Prof Tan Soo Jiuan amazed the crowd with her pugilistic skills of Tai Chi sword to the beat of a modern pop song. Two other teams also showed off their talents in a bollywood item and an upbeat, fast-paced dance routine. In return, the students also contributed to the program with an original song composition that aptly describes undergraduate life. All in, these performances not only showed the talents of both staff and students, but also served to unite the groups, as smiles and camaraderie were apparent among the performers.
Once again, Stars' Nite has achieved what it was set out to do. But what do the students think? Feedback from the students seems to affirm our thoughts...
"Thank you for inviting me to the Marketing Stars Night yesterday. I had a great time. The atmosphere was amazing with students and staff enjoying games and interacting outside of a classroom. You will never find anything like this at (my university). The closest thing to it would be a semi-formal dinner with professors. Haha." (from an exchange student from USA).
"Thank you for organising and making Stars Nite happen last Thursday.... It was truly a memorable and enjoyable experience!" (from a Singaporean student)."
"Congratulations for the wonderful performance. I totally enjoyed myself and each stars night was an eye-opener for me. The Marketing Department never fails to delight and send students wild! I really appreciate everyone's effort in the event, as a graduate, I am always proud to announce that I majored in Marketing. Others are always envious of the close relationships and bonds forged between marketing students and the faculty." (from a former student).

The next highlight of the evening was the staff-vs-student games. Students got to pit their skills among staff in games of limbo rock, arm wrestling, and many other ingeniously thought-of games that brought about laughter and many good sports.
If you were to watch the items, you would notice something -- we are multi-racial: a Chinese item, a Malay item by the students, an Indian dance & an English pop dance.
