The Department of Marketing hosted a function 'Marketing Stars' Nite 2002' for all 3rd and 4th year Marketing Majors as well as our Marketing MSc/PhD students at China Jump. The purpose of this event was to inject a sense of belonging amongst marketing students and to encourage both department staff and students to foster closer ties with each other. The event was well attended (>220 attendees) and all had a wonderful time ? it was a success! (don't take our words for it, below are some of the emails we received after the event.)
It was a fun and meaningful event for everyone in Marketing. We had a buffet dinner and lots of fun activities. Have fun viewing our pictures.

All a-glitter for the "Marketing Stars' Nite"
Awards were given away for outstanding marketing majors who graduated in May 2002 and our current students in different categories. Below are photos of our awards winners.

Prof Chiang, our HoD, gave a short introduction and we started off the night by cutting of our cake embodying our 'Marketing First' logo ? our own original design.
Our logo design was based partly on aesthetic and partly on the symbolism it possesses:
- The triangle shape represents the journey to the top with each vertex symbolizing each of the three aspects of the business school?s motto ? rigorous, relevant, and rewarding.
- The K in the marKeting represents marketing is the smart choice.
- The star represents striving for excellence; it is also incomplete because a true STAR is only fully realized from the life/work experiences when students graduate from here, in other words, we provide the processes and tools for an emerging STAR.
- Marketing First connotes different meanings:
a. We should be your first choice
b. We are the first (among all departments) to develop student-related initiatives to improve students? learning experiences
c. Marketing is the most primary business function
- Blue symbolizes a wide and deep ocean. Like the ocean, a true marketer embraces and tolerates all sorts of ideas.
- Silver gives life to a SHINING star.
We had a host of staff-student games and lucky draws featuring exciting prizes. All of us had fun playing the games and you can see for yourself who are the winners.

The honors students got together and put up an item for us on that night. Despite having to attend their classes and preparing for assignments and projects, they spent a lot of time in perfecting their moves. Way to go, students!

The staff put up a synchronized singing and dancing item, 'That Thing You Do'. Amidst our teaching and research responsibilities, we cherished every practice sessions and the perfection climaxed to a "bring-the-house-down" performance ? we grooved, gyrated, wiggled with our sequin costumes (many "woman hours" were devoted to the sewing of those costumes) in front of a very appreciative audience.

"We had a fabulous time at Marketing Night, and it was a really good opportunity to bond with everyone and with the teachers as well. I think we are all really glad that the event took place!"
"Just wanted to say I had a really good time at the Marketing Stars Night... it is definitely something I'll remember when I leave school because I guess in all my years of being in school, I've never attended anything like this! A big thanks to all the marketing lecturers who made it all possible.... my friends and I had a really wonderful time partying together with one other as well as our teachers!"
"I had a great time on Thursday night, everyone did a great job! It was especially heartening for us graduates to see the marketing department leading the way in holding such an event. Revolutionizing the business school I see."
"I would like to say that my friends and I who went for the Marketing Nite certainly enjoyed ourselves. We deeply appreciated the effort and time put in by our tutors to organize the event. Definitely we see you all in a different light. My friends from other majors and other faculties were actually shocked to learn that being in Marketing has such perks or rather the fact that our tutors were going to let down their hair and party with us. I'm glad to say that I have never regretted my decision to major in Marketing since I came to Bizad. If work commitments permit, I would love to come for the next Marketing Nite. Thanks for making my stay in Bizad a memorable one."
