About Us

Welcome to the Department of Decision Sciences. Please feel free to explore our website and contact us should you need assistance.

We are a multi-disciplinary department with a strong focus on Operations Management and Supply Chain Management under the NUS Business School.  We have a strong faculty who obtained their PhD from top universities, such as MIT, Northwestern, Cornell, Minnesota and INSEAD

Our senior faculty boasts of distinguished teachers cum researchers such as Prof Sun Jie, A/P Sum Chee Chuong, A/P Mark Goh, A/P Hum Sin Hoon and Prof Teo Chung Piaw, all experts in their respective fields. Our junior faculty members are the envy of most departments. We have Dr Lucy Chen (Cornell), Dr Mabel Chou (Northwestern) and Dr Melvyn Sim (MIT). Our faculty not only works on cutting edge research in OR, OM and SCM, but are also actively engaged in industry problems. For instance, we work with various container carriers on practical problems such as optimal cargo mix, empties re-positioning and airline revenue problems.

Our research has been published in highly distinguished journals such as Operations Research, Management Science, Mathematics of OR, Journal of Applied Probability, Mathematics of Operations Research, Mathematical Programming, and Annals of Applied Probability.

Our faculty members help with the research efforts of University-level research institutes such The Logistics Institute- Asia Pacific (TLI-AP) and the NUS Entrepreneurship Centre.  We also participate in the prestigious Singapore MIT Alliance program (SMA) and our faculty members are engaged in collaborative work with their counterparts at MIT.

Our doctoral programme is solid and rigorous, comparable to those of top American universities such as Berkeley.

While we are proud of our achievements in research, our faculty has turned out excellent teaching performance both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  A/P Chu Singfat has won NUS Excellent Teacher, 2001-2005; A/P Sum Chee Chuong won University Teaching Excellence Award 2005/06 and A/P Hum Sin Hoon won the Faculty Outstanding Educator Award 2005/06.
