The CTI was introduced in 2000 by the Business Times Singapore with the aim of gauging the transparency of Singapore-listed companies. Scoring for the CTI is conducted by reviewing financial reports and associated reports, such as press releases and fact sheets, against a scorecard which is split into two sections – content and context. Only information that is released to the SGX via SGXnet for the Singapore investment community is considered although some limited information is obtained from corporate websites. The CTI is updated regularly throughout the year to take into account the different financial year ends of companies.
The Centre, in collaboration with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Singapore, has been scoring companies for the index since 2006.
