International Business/Strategy and Entrepreneurship

The International Business/Strategy and Entrepreneurship group comprises faculty members, all of whom have received their Doctoral degrees from reputable institutions such as MIT, Harvard, Michigan, Texas, Western Ontario, Duke, Wharton and Stanford. The members of the group have a common interest in researching strategic issues confronting organizations, particularly in the context of emerging economies in Asia. Our approach to solving these problems is quite eclectic with some adopting a behavioral science based approach and others adopting an economics based approach. Some key areas being researched by the group members include: foreign market entry, cooperative strategies, strategic thinking and planning, global and regional strategies, management of technology, strategy in high technologically industries, IT strategy and entrepreneurship.

We study entrepreneurship at both micro and macro levels. At micro level, we examine the formation processes of new business organizations and their strategy formulations. At macro level, we investigate the social, economic, cultural, organizational, and institutional contexts that give rise to new enterprises, and the societal consequences of the entrepreneurial activities.

Group members actively publish in top ranked management journals, and are frequently sought out as experts by the media as well as companies seeking advice and consulting services. Among us, we have two recipients of the prestigious Haynes Prize, given annually by the Academy of International Business to prominent researchers under the age of 40. Group members have also received university-level as well as faculty-level awards for their outstanding teaching and research. In addition, several of the group members sit in the editorial boards of leading management journals such as, the Strategic Management Journal, the Journal of International Management Studies, European Management Review, etc. Selected papers for each member of the group are listed below:
