| HKUST 2006 Business Plan Competition (May 2006) |

Competition Background
- A global business plan competition, the event saw universities from the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia coming to present their plans in front of an intimidating panel of 18 judges.
- The composition of the judging panel was varied, ranging from the marketing director of Microsoft to the managing director of Macquarie Securities to a venture capitalist from Palo Alto, United States to the ex-CEO of Wal-Mart, China.
- The judges were extremely impressed with the presentation style and cohesion of the NUS team. They thought that the NUS team members displayed the greatest team spirit among all the other teams, presented their parts seamlessly and answered all questions very well, showing their in-depth research into the case.
- NUS Business School beat top schools like UC Berkley, London School of Economics, Stanford to clinch third prize

Competition Background
- The institute aims to develop a sense of entrepreneurship among the contestants, and allows for students to practice and display their skills in business planning and presentation.
- The competition attracted 18 teams from 11 universities across Asia.
- A team of four NUS MBA students won the top prize and walked away with the prestigious H.M. the King's Award at the Bangkok Business Challenge Coined 'MyCar', the NUS team comprising seeks to address the market need in Singapore for owning affordable personal transportation by introducing a new concept of the private car rental service.
- Aside from the prize money of 200,000 baht (S$8,350) for the team, and 100,000 baht for NUS, the NUS team MyCar@NUS also received seed funding of 25 million baht (over S$1 million) for the business plan it presented at the competition.
- The idea originated from Anand in 2005 when he was doing his first year MBA at NUS. It was based on using the budget airlines concept to cope with the high cost of private car ownership in Singapore.
- NUS Business School's MyCar@NUS is the first foreign team to win the Bangkok Business Challenge

455 firms from 33 countries participated in the survey, and ranked the NUS MBA as the most desirable School to recruit MBAs from in the Asia Pacific. The survey was conducted by QS Research, one of the world’s leading networks for top careers and education.

Competition Background
- ‘Managing Nations’ is a strategy game played by about 100 teams from around the world.
- The NUS MBA team, Cerebrum was one of five finalists.
- Team Members : Karan Jeet Sachdev, Anant Jain, Aditya Agarwal
- Other teams in the finals were from IIMA, XLRI and Oxford University.

Competition Background
- Teams had to submit a business plan on the topic: "If you had up to USD 25 million to invest in an entrepreneurial venture in India, what would you do - why and how?
- The competition attracted 80 teams from Singapore and abroad.
- The NUS team, proposed a plan for the generation of electricity and silica through an alternative technology.
